Joel T. Daves IV currently serves on the Mobile City Council, a position to which he was elected in 2013 without opposition. He is immediate past Area President for the South Alabama Area of Regions Bank, which includes Mobile and Baldwin counties. In this role he was responsible for all Regions’ banking activities in those markets. Before his retirement Daves had a thirty year career with Regions and its predecessor, AmSouth Bank. During that time Daves held executive banking positions in Mobile, Dothan, Huntsville, Montgomery and Birmingham.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of the South at Sewanee, TN and received his law degree (cum laude) from Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, FL. He graduated with distinction from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware.
In addition to his service on the State Arts Council Daves currently serves on the boards of Infirmary Health Services and the Alabama Department of Archives and History. He is past Chairman of the Board of the United Way of Southwest Alabama and was co-chairman of the Mobile Area Education Foundation’s 80/20 initiative. He was 2012 Chairman of the Mobile Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Chase total resources fund drive which exceeded its $1.5 million goal. Mr. Daves chaired record breaking total resources fund drives for the Montgomery and Huntsville chambers of commerce. He also served as co-chairman of the Mobile Chamber’s Partners for Growth 2013-2017 economic development initiative, which raised over $7.5 million from private sources for the Chamber’s economic development activities.
Long active in arts and business organizations across the state, he is a past board member of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the Mobile Museum of Art, the Montgomery Symphony, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, the Alabama Symphony, the Virginia Samford Theatre and Vulcan Park.
Daves is Vice Chairman of the Council. He previously served as Secretary of the Council and Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee.
Daves served in the United States Navy and United States Navy Reserve, retiring as a Commander.
He is married to the former Stephanie Toomey of Mobile and has two children.
